Debian GNU/Linux, apt, and You

Apt (Advanced Packaging tool) and dpkg are the heart of the Debian packaging system. With it, you can easily install anything from an individual program to a desktop environment (i.e.: KDE/Gnome) or even upgrade your entire system!

The main tools I will be addressing are:

• apt-get

• apt-setup

• dpkg

• alien

Hopefully, after this discussion, you'll see that Debian can make your Linux life just a little easier.
