April 6, 2011 - General Meeting

Topic: Unity

Presenter: Michael Schultheiss

Mr. Schultheiss will be giving a presentation on Unity, a shell interface for the GNOME desktop environment developed by Canonical Ltd. for its Ubuntu operationg system. Unity debuted in the netbook edition of Ubuntu 10.10. It is designed to make more efficient use of space given the limited screen size of netbooks. Canonical announced it had engineered Unity for desktop computers as well and is making Unity the default shell for Ubuntu in version 11.04. Unity is part of the Ayatana project, an initiative to improve the user experience within Ubuntu. More information on Unity can be found at http://unity.ubuntu.com

March 2, 2011 - General Meeting

Topic: Nagios

Presenter: Pat Milligan

Mr. Milligan will be giving a presentation on system monitoring with Nagios. Nagios is a popular open source computer system and network monitoring application. It watches hosts and services, alerting users when issues occur and with those issues have been resolved. More information on Nagios can be found at http://www.nagios.org

The February meeting is the Annual Meeting of CINLUG, Inc. Due to the cancellation of the February meeting due to inclement weather, we will be electing the next CINLUG board of directors at the March meeting. Currently, each of the current CINLUG board members has agreed to continue serving on the CINLUG board members has agreed to continue serving on the CINLUG board and no other nominations have been received. If you are interested in serving on the CINLUG board, please make your interest known at the March meeting. Also at the March meeting, annual dues ($30) are collected from anyone interested in paid CINLUG membership.
